Penny Arcade Adventures Hits Xbox Live Tomorrow

Longest game title ever?

20 May 2008

Tomorrow is a Wednesday. That means that tomorrow is also a day when you'll be able to turn on your Xbox 360 and find a new game sat on Xbox Live, beckoning your hard-earned Microsoft points away from you. That game will be the (cumbersomely-titled) Penny Arcade Adventures: On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness, Episode One.

It will be calling out to 1,600 of your Microsoft points, to be exact. It will be doing so from 9:00am. Yes, 1,600 points... per episode, what's with what?

PAAORSPDE1 (that's what we're calling it now) has spun out of the brains Penny Arcade webcomic creators Mike ‘Gabe’ Krahulik and Jerry ‘Tycho’ Holkins, designer of The Curse of Monkey Island (Tim SPOnG says "that's enough"), Ron Gilbert and Hothead Games. It's the first episodic RPG adventure game to hit Xbox Live Arcade, dragging players into "a deranged 1920s comic-book-meets-pulp-horror universe called New Arcadia" (Microsoft's words). Players have to team up with Gabe and Tycho of the Startling Developments Detective Agency do battle with bizarre enemies and suchlike.

Microsoft tells us the game offers players "the ability to design their own customisable character, a dynamic turn-based combat system and the ability to transfer your customised character’s stats and inventories to future episodes, or start fresh with each episode".

I think Microsoft will get lots of raised middle fingers from gamers on the price they want...What a disgrace.
