'Popular' in the United States musician and Jennifer Aniston boyfriend, John Mayer, has started a sentence with the kind of phrase that you know he doesn't mean in order to kick Guitar Hero.
"I don't ever want to be the kind of guy who rails against whatever progress has taken place", he tells RollingStone magazine. Don't you just know there's going to be a 'but'? Here it comes rock fans...
"But Guitar Hero was devised to bring the guitar-playing experience to the masses without them having to put anything into it. And having done both, there's nothing like really playing guitar. I mean, what would you rather drive, a Ferrari or one of those amusement-park cars on a track?"
No it wasn't John. It was devised to bring the air guitar and getting together with your mates to have a laugh experience to the masses. As for the Ferrari reference... well, damn it, but we've lost the key to ours. Oh, that's right, we don't OWN one. We'll got and play Race Driver: GRID instead with all of its not-authentic, real car fun.

What planet is he on? He might have a point if he'd played it, which he probably hasn't. I doubt if he'd say that if he had.
So what he's saying is tantamount to saying air guitar is crap too, because you learn nothing from it, despite the great fun feeling it gives a person.

Do your self a favour go buy a cheap Squire and learn to play the real thing.
