Following the launch of a teaser website, Electronic Arts and Crytek have made their official announcement of Crysis Warhead. The companies also spilled a few beans on what exactly it is.

The game takes place parallel to the events of the first Crysis, focusing on the other side of the island and the antics of Sergeant 'Psycho' Sykes. Because this is the second game in the series, the ante has been upped. We're told that players will find "even more intense and explosive than they ever could have imagined", with a bigger arsenal than the first game and new vehicles.

Additionally, we're promised new multi-player content, but EA and Crytek aren't dishing the dirt on that just yet.

In a move that some might find surprising, the duo is putting the title out as a PC exclusive. Not too long ago Crytek's CEO, Cevat Yerli, said that the company would no longer produce PC exclusive games thanks to the high levels of piracy of Crysis. Presumably he meant after Warhead...

The game will be the first to be developed at Crytek's Budapest studio. It will use what we're told is "a new, enhanced and optimized version of Crytek’s CryENGINE 2 technology".

“We were very pleased with the reception of Crysis from both gamers and media after our launch last year”, said Cevat Yerli, CEO and president of Crytek. “That being said, one of the key principles of our studio is to always raise the bar. With Warhead, we are focusing on refining our storytelling and game performance, while also delivering more of the visually stunning graphics and immersive, free-roaming gameplay everyone loved in Crysis.”
