We were a little taken aback when we saw Nyko Technologies' Kama 'wireless controller for Wii'. We were expecting one of those cobbled together Chinese/Taiwanese rips but we were confronted with the items you see to the right. They are being sold as follows, "Enjoy a new found freedom in all of your Wii games with the Kama Wireless Controller from Nyko.

"The Kama Wireless Controller provides all the same abilities and features of the wired Nunchuk™, but with no cables tethered to the Wii Remote."

Nintendo also appears to be somewhat taken aback - it is actually aghast to the extent of suing Nyko because the latter's wireless versions "wholly appropriates the novel shape, design, overall appearance and even the color and materials used in the Nintendo Nunchuk controller".

Not according to Nyko spokesman C.C. Swiney, who told Bloomberg, "We have not knowingly violated anyone's intellectual property and we're still examining this".

Still, the Nyko version is wireless... the case continues.

A lot of folk have been waiting for a wireless nunchuck and Nintendo are pissed because they were about to do that or are pissed that they wish they could do that...

The one thing I don't get: when Nintendo revealed the Wii controllers, they said they would help 3rd parties with creating alternative lines of controllers for use with the Wii, making sure they had access to the technology required... this seems a strange way to help someone.

Nintendos healping usually involves wads of cash, pretty much like Sony and MS,

Quite possibly Nintendo have a patent for a wireless version of the Nunchuck themselfs that Nyko have unknowingly copied or at least its very very simlar, this nunvhuck does not look like the wired version and im sure its not down to the motion sensing part of the device or else it would be immersion suing all over again.

PS: Roi asked this a while ago and im interested to, but does anyone know whats happeneing on the Sony Immersion Settlement - payment to MS debacle?

Good question really...

I think someone is going to fork out the love-cookies and friendship-pancakes in the end.

The complaint seems to be that it looks the same as the Nintendo product. Maybe Nintendo are getting edgy, in case someone else makes a Wiimote look-alike, but to be used with some else's console. So Nintendo want stop this before a president is set.

If Nintendo want to stop people making things that look like their controller then they could be in for a hard time, which they should realise next time one them thinks “Now I want to change the channel, but don’t want to get off my arse. If only there was something that let me control the TV from a distance.”

I’ll sell you one.
Made of real wood,
Optimum range is about six feet,
Needs no batteries,
Simple point and poke action to affect change (and sometimes damage) to almost any object within range,
Range, approx. six to seven feet, dependant on personal limb length,
Can also help with some house hold tasks (though removing the brushy bit will compromise this operation).
Price £500 excl p&p

Thinking on from this, maybe Nintendo are missing a trick. They are already the parents’ choice of games console, so why not further this appeal by launching the Wii Hover, and Wii Lawnmower (cert.12A). Get kids competitive about housework. It’s not child labour, if they love the labour. So come on Nintendo, give me a purely practical (and maybe selfish) reason for procreation.
