Electronic Arts Calls Rock Band "Expensive"

But not if they're too pricey

Facebreaker
25 Jun 2008

Speaking about peripherals for EA Sports titles at a Q&A session at GDC Paris, an executive producer at the company has owned up to the fact that Rock Band is rather costly.

Talking about bundled bits, David McCarthy noted that, "You have to be careful with it, because Rock Band, that's a great peripheral, but it's a big expensive box."

He continued to speak about EA's hardware plans, saying, "I think you'll see games using that Rock Band peripheral strategy from EA Sports, even within the next 12 months." He was, however, keen to point out the cost issue was key, stating that peripherals will be included providing, "it doesn't raise that barrier of entry and accessibility" - e.g. price.

Last July it unveiled 'Family Play', a gameplay mode which appears in certain sports titles on the Wii that targets casual audiences. Then we got its 'freestyle' casual sports label, which includes titles such as the (curiously appealing) Facebreaker. Further attempts to make its sports line-up more interesting can only be a good thing.
