Firmware update v.2.40 is coming. It's finally bringing in-game access to the cross media bar (XMB). Sony's pretty excited about it and has produced a video walk-through to get your excitement levels up to a similar point. SPOnG has the goods below.

Marvel as you see messages from your buddies without ever leaving a game! Swoon as you learn how to jump straight to your photiegraphs from GT5 Prologue! Shiver with anticipation as you're shown how to fiddle with your blu-tooth settings! Most importantly, get your foot tapping as the option to play your own music from the PS3's hard drive in-game is finally unveiled! Actually, what you should probably do is stop reading about it and start watching. We've been waiting a long time for this...

Sony hasn't said exactly when the update will be available, but we're told it's coming soon. It will also include the 'trophy' feature, which Sony plans to give us a video on soon.
