Xbox 360 to get Minority Report-Style Interface?

Xbox 360 to get Minority Report-Style Interface?
Rumour has it that the Spring Update for the Xbox 360 will bring with it a swanky new 3D dashboard makeover. A 3D makeover that will make use of the unconfirmed motion-sensitive 360 remote!

The new graphical user interface (GUI) will apparently look not dissimilar from that seen in use by Tom Cruise in Minority Report. All the elements that currently appear on the dashboard will be re-organised in a collection of floating windows which users can slide through using the '360mote'.

This comes from Kotaku, which claims it was told as much by "a number of sources". It also claims that the interface is being designed by a design agency called Schematic, which just so happens to employ a chap called Dale Herigstad as its chief creative officer. Herigstad worked on the design of the user interface in Minority Report. Intriguing stuff.

The bit about the 360-mote is the sticker for SPOnG. IF the makeover is coming and depends on a 360mote (which we still don't know exists), it doesn't seem likely that we'll see the revamp any time soon. If there's any truth to this, it seems more likely to SPOnG that the new dashboard will be navigable using the traditional controller, with support for a 360-mote possibly built in for when it emerges, IF it emerges.

Alternatively, the Spring update could just lay down the groundwork for such a makeover to be realised at a later date. That would certainly be in keeping with the assertion by Xbox Live's general manager, Marc Whitten, that "most users will not notice any significant changes to the dashboard this spring". A complete and instant overhaul of the GUI? Not so much.

One thing this rumour certainly has in its favour is the fact that the interface sounds similar to the way windows can be scrolled through in Vista.

Now im all for new swanky 3d motion moving dashboard, but....

The current dashboard isnt ugly and very simple to navigate, if it keeps the simplicity then great, if not it could kill live!

How on earth could it kill Live?? Its only the interface and I am all for a newer looking one especially 3D.

Xbox Lives network is built on being able to play online and the interface on the dashboard has nothing to do with the ability of altering Xbox Live's capabilities in general.

Obviously if they were to be stupid and make you click several times to check messages then yes but Microsoft have only made things better and better.

This would completely kill the 360 themes, that have been sold to customers, so I guess it would have to be an optional setting.

im not at all saying this will kill live, but for someone (not naming names)to say there is no possibility pf it ruining live, is a little misguided. one of the main poits of a consumer friendly internet service, is th interface. if it its clumsy and cumbersome, then it will be obviously less inviting, and more difficult to use, before you even get to the main point of it, ie playing games etc.

Xbox Live is a SERVICE it has nothing to do with the interface, there graphical interface has no effect on the ability to play on XBOX LIVE. Its like Sonys interface is that called the PSN? No.

FFS, your on form this week!, yes its a service but how does LIVE work!, how do you play online in halo3?, you cant use LIVE without the interface, you cant download demos without using the interface and you cant use, messaging, downloads, settings, and pretty much anything else without the interface taht lets you use LIVE!! its like trying to surf online without a browser, what i was saying is change that interface and make it less accessable and less people would want to use LIVE!

now if yourequire more information turn on your xbox and try to download someting without using the interface through LIVE.
