UPDATE: PS3 Firmware Update v2.41 to be "Released Shortly"

Little information but at least no more silence.

// UPDATE: Apparently - according to comments on the PlayStation Blog (US site) - firmware update 2.41 is up and ready for download. Tell us about your experience of 2.41 on the SPOnG Forum //

Following last weeks 'issues' with the PlayStation 3's 2.40 firmware patch, Director PlayStation Network Operations Eric Lempel has made a vague announcement of its re-release.

Last week saw some PS3 owners consoles failing to operate following installation of the update. Sony has been silent as the grave since withdrawing 2.40 on July 3rd.

That silence has now been, if not broken, at least dented with the following announcement.

"Hi, everyone. As many of you know, we released PS3 firmware update v2.40 last week, but had to take it offline temporarily because, for a limited number of users, the XMB wouldn’t display after the update was installed. We’ve been able to fix the problem, and I’m happy to report that firmware update v2.41 will be released shortly."

There is no definition of 'shortly' as yet.

2.41 is up and running on my 60GB PS3... but I had no problems with 2.40 either... and 2.41 now has faster in-game XMB, plus a new icon for Platinum trophies, and all my previous trophies are intact. Result! All we need now is a few more games to utilise the trophy system... I have to say, it sure got me back into Super Stardust...
