Okay, so there were some high points but, boy, was it long. Sony's presentation began with a history lesson that went back to pre-PSOne days and appeared only to be there to justify PlayStation's existence as a long-standing tradition in the face of the Wii and Xbox upstarts. It ended with some delicious looking game images coming sometime in the future.

The whole thing was presented by Sony Computer Entertainment America's president, Jack Tretton. A man who appeared to want to be anywhere else but on the stage of the Shrine Auditorium. In fact, at one point he even asked Media Molecule's Alex Evans if Sack Boy - who had been presenting Sony's figures in a LittleBigPlanet level - might like to finish the gig on his behalf. That was less than half an hour into what turned out to be an hour and three quarters of presentation.

We found ourselves missing Phil Harrison like we never thought possible. Where on earth Kaz Hirai actually was - obviously not in the country - is a question only he (and his advisors) can answer.

In terms of the big announcements - frankly, we still don't know when Home is coming. Jack did promise, however, that "It will be well worth your patience". Aside from a new 80Gb PlayStation 3, "with the same functionality" as the 40Gb console coming in September - it'll cost $400, some $100 less than the current version, there were certainly no hardware announcements of much merit. If you exclude a new PS2 (LEGO Batman bundle) and a PSP pack also aimed kidwards with Ratchet and Clank: Size Matters.

This was quite definitely a presentation that didn't really want to happen. You could almost feel the SCEA crew wishing they were doing some real work.

God of War 3 coming to PlayStation 3 and looking great.

DC Universe - the first SOE cross-over into Sony Computer Entertainment.

Resistance 2 (PS3) and Resistance Retribution on PSP - both of which look teasingly spectacular.

Single Sign-In for PlayStation network.

Movie and TV downloads to begin, well, right now.

A new game called MAG (Massive Action Gaming) which also looked superb but which we won't see until at least next year.
