As part of its Euro-centric E3 press conference, Sony has finally confirmed that it will release a budget, Platinum range of PS3 games in Sony Computer Entertainment Europe territories.

The range isn't too far away, with Sony having the games confirmed for an August 1st release date at a price point of £19.99. The initial first-party titles in the range will be MotorStorm, Heavenly Sword, Ratchet and Clank: Tools of Destruction and Uncharted: Drake's Fortune.

There are also a handful of third-party titles announced for the Platinum range. Virtua Tennis (Sega), Assassin’s Creed (Ubisoft) and WWW Smackdown Vs Raw 2008 (THQ) were all mentioned, although the release date of the latter is still to be confirmed.

To qualify for the Platinum treatment in Europe, games must have sold 400,000 copies.

With great titles spanning a huge breadth of gaming experiences, this August is a great time to be a PS3 owner.”
