Blizzard has launched a 'Recruit-A-Friend' campaign for World of Warcraft, offering up a free exclusive mount and other goodies for those who participate.

To get at the good stuff you have to stick the details of your mate in the recruit-a-friend page over at the official WoW site and the ball will start doing its rolling thing. If your friend opts to upgrade from the ten day free trial to a retail copy and pays for 60 days of play then you get the mount. The mount in question is called the Zhevra (it's a mish-mash of zebra and unicorn) and is only available to those who participate in the scheme. Participants can also get 30 days of free play. Free!

What will sweeten the pot even further for some is the fact that you and your recruit will have linked accounts. Why should you care? It'll mean that you can summon each other once an hour and while you're playing together, you can earn triple experience points. Triple!

Furthermore, for every two levels the noob earns, he (or she... maybe) can grant one level to a lower-ranking character played by the vet.

In other WoW news, today marks the launch of the game and its expansion, The Burning Crusade, over in Russia.

SPOnG's starting to suspect that WoW is actually a bizarre bid for world domination by a crazed but ingenious despot...

I've been using this. I got my brother to sign up for an account and created a new char myself. For the times that he couldn't be bothered to play I'd just park his char in a quest hub type town and then when I received the quest reward I'd be within range of his char and I'd receive triple xp for the q reward. It's taken me 8 days to get from level 1-60, and I can't even claim that I played that much.
