Exclusive: All New Alien Breed Confirmed
Fellow Yorkshireman, Team17's Studio Head Martyn Brown, has confirmed to SPOnG that an all-new incarnation of the classic Amiga title, Alien Breed will be coming to a next-gen platform near you within the next 12 months.

Sitting down with Brown recently we demanded to know what was happening with a variety of T17 IPs beloved of SPOnG. Specifically we demanded, "Why aren't you lot working on a new Alien Breed?".

"Funnily enough, we are", Brown bombshelled back, "and we're doing it with a budget far in excess of anything that has been spent anywhere on a digital title to date."

"Digital, eh?" So, this indicates to us that the new Alien Breed won't be coming in boxed form. If this is indeed the case it means that all the major 'new gen' consoles and the PC are in the running. When pressed on this, however, Brown would neither confirm or deny delivery method or platform. What he would confirm was that the game is being developed entirely in the People's Republic of Yorkshire, "We're not buggering off to Canada or India, if that's what you mean", said Martyn.

We would also hazard an informed guess that not only will Team17 be developing the title, it will also be publishing it - indicating an expansion for the UK-based company. "We're looking to take the studio in different directions. For a start, the days of over-reliance on a sole IP are over".

"We're certainly looking to go back to multiple, high quality IPs."

As to how the game will look and play, that remains a closely guarded secret for now. That said, having nosey around the T17 offices from time to time, it would be hard to imagine that we won't see some Unreal qualities to it when finally released.

More news when we can extract it.

OMG!! At last!! :)

A bit short on details though, not really too much indication of what this is going to be. It does sound like it's going to be Live Arcade/PSN based, will be interesting to see whether it's a straight remake (like Speedball 2) or a complete update (like Super Stardust), given the comment on budget I'd assume the latter. Can't wait to see some screens.

well.. this has made my day :D

I can't possibly confirm that it's a totally new game and not a Speedball-like re-hash.

Can I run this on a 1MB A500? or will it be AGA only? ;-)

Clarification from Martyn is what is needed here. What machines is it to be written for and which ones are to be considered. Obviously PS2 & 3 plus XBox360 &Wii are in the running for a version.

Hopefully, T17 will remain true to their origins and have a version for the Amiga :)

I guess Amiga Power will have to buy their copy at release again?

Patch things up Martyn, their reviews were the fairest on the market. No need to be an arse about it all.
