Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) has just announced that PlayStation Network cards - previously only available in Asia - will being going on sale in outlets including Blockbuster, 7-Eleven and Riteaid in September.

The pre-pay cards enable gamers of all ages to avoid the tedious and interest-hungry problem of credit cards (we're sure there are other reasons for gamers of all ages to use pre-paid cards) in order to download games and other items from the PlayStation Store.

The scheme has been active in Japan for some months and was expected to roll out in the States in Spring this year. Unshockingly specialist game retailers such as GameStop and EB Games are not going to be the venues for such card sales - much in the same way as turkeys are very rarely seen selling Paxo and sprouts around Xmas time (We KNOW turkeys are not known to retail anything).

We've contacted the dear people at Sony in Europe to discover when gamers of all ages in places like Dulwich, Newtown, Skipton and Gatehouse of Fleet will be able to benefit. We have heard nothing yet.

These cards have been out since August. I was able to get one at a Mejier Store in Illinois. You might also want to start looking at Target and Wal-Mart as well...

They are simple enough to use. Just go to "account management" and enter ID... You're Done....50 dollars added and let the downloads begin. Reply

They're also a great idea for presents, like WHSmith vouchers, but with stuff you actually want to buy! Reply
