Grand Theft Auto Film Rip Off On the Way?

Casting call goes out

4 Sept 2008

A call has gone out for teens to help Briggs Digital Media, an internet TV company, cash in on the success of the GTA franchise.

A casting call for a short film call Game Over states, "Teens looking to appear in the upcoming short film must be very experienced players of “Grand Theft Auto.”"

The movie will be directed by Bobby Garabedian, whose short film, Most, was nominated for an Oscar.

Details on the film are scarce, but the characters interested teenagers can audition for goes as follows:

"DAKOTA: Built like a Frigidaire, with a soft baby face. Think Seth Rogen at 15 years old.

"FRANK; A reclusive kid who keeps to himself. A computer genius who knows video gaming like the back of his hand.

"GEORGE; Good looking and sensitive.

"SAM; Asian, very lean. Quick-witted and unpredictable."

It certainly doesn't have the ring of an officially-licensed project, does it? None of those guys sound like they could be hardened criminals that get into scrapes involving helicopters or rocket launchers, either.

SPOnG's guess: a sensitive and poignant drama about the lives, loves and troubles of four teens as they try to find their way in a world, centred around their love of GTA IV. Then Frank gets f**ked out of his brains, tries to nick a whole bunch of cars then shoots the rest of them while having sex with a hamster. Because he likes games too much. You mean, a film that rips off a series of games that have plundered so many other films for material because the writers were too lame to carve out their own characters and situations?

Oh alright, homage. wha'evah.
