Metallica Bursts Guitar Hero Bubble?

Dad Rockers go early to avoid Glaswegians?

11 Sept 2008

Earlier this month, Activision told the world that, "In a monumental first for the gaming and music industries, Metallica’s highly anticipated ninth studio album Death Magnetic will be available in its entirety as downloadable content for Activision Publishing's Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock day and date with the album release this Friday, September 12". (Our bolding).

Well, apparently the Dad-Rockers' record company - possibly in fear of upstarts, Glasvegas; possibly because the LP has been 'leaked' - has opted to ignore that deal and release Metallica's long-player a day early: that's today Drock fans!

The BBC reports that, "record label Vertigo is believed to have told shops to go ahead and sell it early after some retailers broke the sales embargo."

This is confirmed by an HMV spokesmanwho said, "We were advised yesterday by the label that because it's been leaked quite heavily, they should bring forward its physical release and allow retailers to merchandise it."

Frankly, it's a shame for the video game industry that its (much) elder erstwhile competitor industry isn't quite able to go with the whole day and date thing. A lesson learned maybe?

I saw the headline and was hoping that a Rock Band Metallica pack was on it's way...

Still, got the album yesterday from HMV and first impressions are good :)
