The Xbox 360, its New Name and the Mill of Rumour

New name for 360 'revealed'

The Xbox 360 is, according to cheapassgamer, to be reborn with a whole set of new names. The report states that, "a picture sent to us with clearly visible text, in what appears to be either the 360's new name or the next xbox's final name. 'XBOXPure' is what looks to be the final choice in this document."

It also comes with a picture of the very letterheadless letter, which for purposes of not doubting the story at all, we have reproduced (sort of) and which you can see to the right of this very piece of text.

Apparently, we're getting three new Xboxes: 'Lean', 'Granite' and 'Pure' - which we take to mean, 'Slim', 'Black' and 'White'. Quite why Microsoft would rename its Xbox 360 - other than to confuse both retail and consumer alike, we can't fathom. If, indeed it is a new machine, then this kind of data security makes the British government's habit of leaving all your personal details on trains for any old terrorist to copy look quite reasonable business practice.

We've done some more chasing around and have not been able to come up with any supporting evidence. So, keep your eyes peeled.

Thanks for the above comment Harry.

Anyways anyone could have made up that piece of paper and its a shame Dean Takahashi has no more insider info from us since the guy responsible for the leaks got fired...However if this is a start of a new leak its interesting and am sure that it points to a snew Slim Xbox 360.

Well, we just did, and then printed it with a caption.

I'm suspecting some sub-editor, aka part of your brain, gets ejected out of the underwater castle when it's found false, following standard protocol?

How was tea-time with Zeus actually?

Nope - we took about 30 seconds to mock up a letterheadless letter, photograph it and bang it in the story with a caption saying "Not the actual letter, today."

I am going to be amused to see how fast that gets around the Internet.

We don't go until October 10th... Dee has the travel plans.

Cheers

To clarify, we KNEW our letter is faked. We did it deliberately and announced it as such.
