For a moment, it looked like a brand-spanking new, super-svelte, slimmer Xbox 360 had been spotted in the wild.

Engadget posted the picture you see to the right showing what does, in fairness to the site, look a bit like like an Xbox 360 sat being skinnier than the one next to it. The image is from the blog of Paul Thurrott, the man behind "SuperSite for Windows", a news site for - you guessed it - Windows. What he was actually trying to show was how small the Microsoft Arc Mouse is. Anyway, Engadget posited that that the left-hand machine could well be a new version of the 360.

Alas, it was not to be. Thurrott responded, "Oh, I wish this were a slimmer Xbox 360, I really do. But it isn’t, sorry." To prove it, he posted a further picture (below) showing the two Xboxes in what he claimed was the exact same set-up as the first one. It was a dodgy camera angle what dunnit. Oh well...

SPOnG, for its part, is reminded of the Xbox Pure debacle last week, of which we were rightfully sceptical, since it turned out to be a prank from a blog poster on Cheap Ass Gamer. All this misinformation! This must be what it's like to live in one of them communist countries...

Interesting, there was that guy (forget the site but I think their was a link here) that had a exclusive look at 360 main board revisions plans, and I think the low powered board that would suite slim was end of this year, or in next. I think he also had the expanded functionality stuff, but forget which board.
