Epic Hints at Gears 2 as Last Gears Game
Plus: why the Gears of War series is done

Cliff Bleszinski
Epic's Cliff Bleszinski, lead designer on Gears of War 2, has effectively said that Epic will never be able to top Gears 2 with a sequel.
Speaking in an interview (published on SPOnG), in response to the question: "Do you feel like you’ve fulfilled your vision for the series with Gears of War 2?" Bleszinski said, "Ultimately we have fulfilled the vision of what the game can be – having a more robust multi-player, expanding the co-op experience in a way that makes sense and doesn’t completely destroy the narrative, as well as having a campaign that has these kind of rollercoaster moments.
"I think the game has a bit of heart as well, in regards to Dom (Santiago)’s side of the story. It’s all really come together, I’m really proud of it", he said.
As well as that interview (which you can read here), you can find a brand new Gears 2 preview here.

Hi Daz,
"Speaking in an interview (published on SPOnG), in response to the question: "Do you feel like you’ve fulfilled your vision for the series with Gears of War 2?" Bleszinski said, "Ultimately we have fulfilled the vision of what the game can be"
I hope that clarifies things.
Cheers
Tim

I second this actually, i want to be able to spawn sub-editors out of my brain just like that and then have the joy in firing them in a shark-infested deep-sea area while I'm having thea and biscuits behind a thick glass wall...

Not a sub-editor issue that one. That's all plain and simply me.
As I say, he was asked: "Do you feel like you’ve fulfilled your vision for the series with Gears of War 2?" and responded that that vision was fulfilled.
As far as I can see that's more than a hint - as stated in the headline, rather than "Epic Says No More Gears of War Ever!" for example. Why on earth would you continue something that had fulfilled everything you ask of it?
Surely, that indicates something new? A good thing?
Cheers

he could have just meant gears 2, since he said "what the game can be"

wow got to agree here, he was obviously talking about gears 2 only. And with its impending release why would he say any different. You dont promote a million plus seller with the words 'we could of done more'. Although i see where Tim is coming from i would of read it like that if it was 3 months after release but not before

Agree with you on that. I just took what he said to mean that they did everything they wanted to do with Gears 2, it's doesn't rule out that they'll have something bigger planned for Gears 3.
I do think it was a bit of a stretch to say "Epic's Cliff Bleszinski, lead designer on Gears of War 2, has effectively said that Epic will never be able to top Gears 2 with a sequel."
Besides, as nice as a new game (IP) would be, I don't see them turning down the paycheck they'll get for Gears 3... by which point they'll be telling us that Gears 3 is bigger, better, more bad ass and has sharks with frickin' laser beams.
