Deus Ex 3 Detailed
Info on prequel to revered Deus Ex stirs up fanbase

6 Oct 2008
Fresh details of the next Deus Ex game have oozed forth into the world, revealing that the title will take on board elements from the likes of Call of Duty.
Players will take on the role of one Adam Jensen, a security officer working for a tech lab specialising in biomechanical augmentations, a pre-cursor to the sort of nano-tech seen in the first Deus Ex. Anyway, Jensen's life takes an unexpected twist when a bunch of commandos pile into his company HQ and slaughter a bunch of folk. From there on out, Jensen's caught up in a conspiracy that's going to see him scrapping for his life.
All of the above has been penned by Sheldon Pacotti, the scribe of the original game. Apparently the blessing of Harvey Smith and Warren Spector, the masterminds behind the original, has also been obtained, but that's where their association ends.
In an attempt to appeal to the uninitiated, developer Eidos Montreal has apparently moved in the direction of a self-healing system akin to that of shooters such as the Call of Duty series - no more hunting for health pick-ups. This alone has got Deus Ex die hards fidgeting uncomfortably, though possibly more contentious is the decision to move from the original Deus Ex's "stealth by hiding in shadows" to a more traditional and arguably less advanced "line of sight" system.

The game continues the series' signature augmentation feature, with over 20 reportedly available in the game. These range from super strength that enables players to punch through walls and grab enemies to bungee tentacles that attach to walls as you leap off buildings.
While some of the changes may be seen as controversial, Eidos Montreal says it is aware of criticism of the second game, Invisible War. It won't, apparently, be making the same mistakes such as limiting ammo types.

I played DX2 on PC and thought it was pretty dire compared to the first game. Seemed to put too much emphasis on the instant gratification (aka "arcade action") aspect and not enough of the stealth and tactics.
I can see why DX aficionados might shudder at this news.
