Dead set on reinforcing the message about its prowess with Japanese content, Microsoft used its Tokyo Game Show to announce that the Xbox 360 "has the most top-selling, third-party Japanese titles among all other current games platforms".

Quite what qualifies a game as being "top-selling" wasn't made clear, although that can only be a worldwide phenomenon.

A bit more transparent was the statement from John Schappert (corporate vice president of LIVE, Software and Studios) that $800 million (£460.8 million) worth of games from Japanese publishers have thus far been sold on the Xbox 360, with that figure looking like it will hit $1 billion (£575.9 million) by the end of the holiday period.

Microsoft was also keen to parase offerings from Japan. Square Enix's The Last Remnant and Star Ocean: The Last Hope were shown, with Star Ocean getting a Japanese release date of February 19th and America set to get it on March 3rd - no European date was announced. Capcom's Resident Evil 5 was rolled out and Ninety-Nine Nights II from Q Entertainment, developed by Feelplus, was announced.

On top of all that, a host of Xbox Live Arcade titles were given a mention. You can read the full skinny from Microsoft in its TGS press release.

I like it, agressively invading the competitions homeland and making no bones about it.

I have heard Sony inn't having a press conference, but it's certainly there and showing games.

Maybe they need all hands to manage access to Little Big Planet? :-)

Replying to my own post is bad form, but I just missed the timeout for editing.

Sony had a press conference today at TGS. So no issues with Sony's appearance at TGS at all.
