Koei to Acquire Tecmo - At Last
Earlier this year it looked very much as if Dead or Alive and Ninja Gaiden maker, Tecmo, would fall into the arms of Square Enix. But then something went horribly wrong. Tecmo, possibly in tears, ran to the shelter of Fatal Inertia maker Koei instead.

All this happened shortly after Team Ninja top man, Tomonobu Itagaki resigned in an uber-huff regarding Tecmo president Yoshimi Yasuda.

Yasuda, for his part, explained that he believed that Itagaki was distorting the facts. Meanwhile shareholders were feeling their investments distorting.

Well, now according to Reuters, Koei is to finally acquire Tecmo in a deal in which "each Tecmo share will be exchanged for 0.9 shares in the holding company, while one share in the holding firm, called Tecmo Koei Holdings, will be allotted to each Koei share, allowing Koei shareholders to take three quarters of the new entity."

I am willing to bet Ninja Gaiden 2 will definently come to the PS3 now and probably be called Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 no doubt.

NG2 was a dissapointment as are the dead or alive games in my opion as the characters all looked the same and had a weird look about them.

Now when you look at a game like Tekken its more refreshing and so is the better gameplay.

Its strange that its finally happened, but this merging will be the making of Koei, we frankly do not make enough original games in a very cut throat industry. Dynasty Warriors is fine, but its already becoming stale and shows that the Koei side will have a huge amount to learn, from the variety of product Tecmo are used to making. Fatal Inertia was a nice first try, but they have to think bigger, better and more original than that.

Besides the brilliance of publishing some cool Atlus games, I hope that the Koei Tecmo can come up with some cool new IP.

So what would I like to see from them? Less Dynasty Warriors for one. Take a look around and get you head into this industry properly (Koei side I mean). Risk = benefits. Try something new and cool and surprise us all.

I would like them to do that, but only on the DS since it's the only platform that makes those kind of risks worthwhile while only needing smaller budgets and manpower. The Xbox360 and PS3 audiences are not as receptive (or not at all) to new idea's.
