GTA IV DLC Hitting Retail

US pricing revealed

In a rather savvy move, Rockstar is apparently going to be making Grand Theft Auto IV: The Lost and Damned - the upcoming Xbox 360 exclusive DownLoadable Content - available through retailers.

A listing on American retail giant GameStop's website has the content up for $19.99 (£13). The listing states the following:

"- Grand Theft Auto: The Lost and Damned packaging will include a 2 sided poster and an Xbox LIVE Marketplace token card. The token card will contain a unique code to purchase The Lost and Damned over the Xbox LIVE Marketplace.
"- Runs with a copy of Grand Theft Auto IV on Xbox 360
"- No disc included in packaging – Downloadable Content Only
"- Must have an Xbox LIVE account"

This is thoroughly unlikely to mean that the content won't be available for regular download from Xbox Live. So... why bother? Well, it gets Rockstar retail shelf space, for one. It makes all its pals in retail happy, for two.

It also works for both Rockstar and Microsoft as a point of sale for any 360 owners who haven't gotten onto Xbox Live yet. For a game like Gears 2 this would be a fairly mute point, given that the percentage of owners of that game who aren't already on Live will be minuscule. GTA IV, however, is a game with mass-market appeal beyond the hardcore crowd - some of those who bought it won't have bothered to get online yet. Rockstar wins because it can sell to more potential punters. Microsoft wins because more 360 users get driven towards Live. Happy days!

The Lost and Damned is due for release on February 17th, 2009.

Apart from using materials which is not necessary especially in this case the REAL reason why its being done like this is simple...To show Sony PS3 only owners that there is more to GTA 4 and its ONLY available on the Xbox 360...
