UK Game Charts: Duty Calls Again
And the return of some old friends...
Posted 31 Dec 2008

Blimey, if you're on the team at Call of Duty: World at War devs, Treyarch, you've got to be so incredibly annoyed right now. You're probably so annoyed that you've stopped counting money. You may even have asked, "Where the hell is this Untied Kingdom anyway?". Why? Well, you missed out on the 'coveted' UK Christmas Number 1 having been pipped at the post by a bunch of Canadians with FIFA '09 last week.
That said, you're probably okay right now has your game has regained the UK Number 1. The first post-Christmas video game chart (as collated by Chart-Track and copyright ELSPA) not only sees COD return but also sees Sonic making his impact on the Top 10.
Indeed, the Blue Blur returns with both Sonic Unleashed (10) and Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games (9) - so, it appears that a lot of new folks got consoles this year. Just when we'll get to see any hardware figures, however, is unstated.
So, in the spirit of goodwill, we'll do the announcements regarding hardware on behalf of the platform holders:
Sony: "Going forward the PSP has achieved remarkable result within difficult economic conditions. That's all. No, we've got nothing else to say. Cheers."
Nintendo: "Hahahahaha... no, stop... hahahahahaha..."
Microsoft: "Xbox 360 like totally kicked ass up and down the country. Obviously, we're only talking about kicking the competition's ass. No, we don't see Nintendo in our space at this time..."
Back to the charts. Aside from Lara keeping SCi/Eidos in the Top 10 with Tomb Raider: Underworld, we are looking at domination from the giants of publishing: three titles from Activision/Blizzard; two from EA; two from Nintendo... and two from SEGA as previously mentioned.
Innovation? Maybe in 2009. Xmas is all about sales.
