Toasters just got scarier. Not the kind you use to pop caps in the asses of folk who've dissed you (you know, with the bullets and the hurtiness) - the kind you make bread warmer and harder in. Indie start-up Semnat Studios has just announced the impending release of Eduardo the Samurai Toaster on WiiWare.

The game's a 2D shooter in which players, according to Semnat, "Jump, shoot, whip, drive, fly and throw your way through hordes of Peking Opera pastries, spear toting carrots, robotic mangos, and more. Play with friends as you learn to cooperate effectively, or be annoying by throwing each other around the screen and attacking one another."

Of course, anyone can come up with a natty name for a title that piques your interest then throw assorted 'whacky', 'kooky' and (dare we say it?) 'zany' gameplay ideas around. What makes this look interesting is the art style - somewhere along the lines of South Park mashed up with Castle Crashers. The visuals are reportedly drawn and scanned from various mediums, including pen and ink, acrylic paint and charcoal. You can take a look at some of the screens attached to this very story.

The game is scheduled for "this winter", with no further detail given on exactly when or territories. It will be exclusive to the Wii. You can attack enemies with toast. 'Nuff said.
