Lionhead boss Peter Molyneux has named Sony first-party title LittleBigPlanet as "the most important creative innovation of the last twelve months". This comes from a review of the 2008 creative economy by government-sponsored organisation C&binet, which aims to drive economic growth by promoting the creative industries.

"LittleBigPlanet has outstanding creative vision", said Molyneux. "It’s from a British start-up studio and is one of the defining titles on Japan’s Sony PS3.”

The review covers "creative projects that shone in 2008" according to C&binet. The organisation states that these range in scope from Amy Winehouse to Barack Obama. Granted, that's a bit of a woolly remit, but its warming to see Molyneux, who now heads up a Microsoft-owned studio, giving support to a first-party Sony title.

Molyneux has spoken favourably about LittleBigPlanet before. Of course the game's developer, Media Molecule, is the baby of former Lionhead employees, so there was always a decent chance Molyneux would be inclined to see LBP in a positive light.
