Sony Computer Entertainment America has said that a modest update for the PlayStation Portable is coming soon.

Posting on the PlayStation Blog, Eric Lempel, director of PlayStation Network operations, stated, "Hi, everyone, I wanted to give you a quick heads up that a new PSP firmware update, v5.03, will be released soon. This is a small update that improves system software stability during use of some features."

No further details were given, so it doesn't like we should be expecting any bells and whistles.

Elsewhere on the PSP front, Sony reportedly shot down a proposition from its partner in mobility, Sony Ericsson, suggesting PSP branding be applied a phone.
