And Microsoft said it wouldn't happen...

A shop. Not a Microsoft one though.
Back on the 13th of this month, we ran a story that quoted Bill Brownell, Microsoft's general manager of worldwide retail services saying, "We're not planning to open stores, but we need to learn more about stores. We need to take more of a leadership role."

Back then we were a little disbelieving seeing as the company had invested several million dollars in creating a test store.

Today, MCV has received confirmation that Microsoft, "will be selling Xbox 360 games, hardware and PC titles through the new (European retail) outlets."

According to the report a source at Microsoft in Redmond states that David Porter, a 25-year Wal-Mart veteran, and "his newly created retail stores team will drive the planning and timing of store locations". The source continues, "Out target is a small number of high profile experience stores in a few major cities around the world... the partnerships we have today with retailers around the world will continue to be an important focus area for the company and will benefit from these efforts."

So, there will be Microsoft stores. Let's hope they can get mates-rates.
