Capcom: Digital More Important than Retail
Has another death knell been sounded for bricks and mortar retail? As far as Capcom is concerned, digital distribution is more important for PC gaming than retail. So says Christian Svensson, VP of strategic planning at Capcom.

Asked bluntly, "Is digital distribution more important to the PC than retail?", Svensson responded, "For me? Absolutely. No question in my mind. Digital distribution on PC ties directly into our strategy."

Unequivocal enough for you? We thought so. Svensson added that, "We will probably do as much digital selling as retail in the current climate."

Combine this with Sony's concentration on upping its digital delivery; Microsoft's belief in this being the way forward; the ongoing success of Steam, and Nintendo's continuing Virtual Console strategy, and times are definitely interesting for boxed copies at least in areas with good broadband connectivity.

As for the rest of the world (including the UK for anybody not sitting right next to the exchange) we'll probably still be going to the shops for a while yet.

Very nice, Capcom.

What you guys forget to do is ask the customers. It might be great for Capcom, but you should always consider your customers.

The PC could do with such a system I guess, maybe Capcom should also hook up with Valve too. Both of them make great games, love zombies and listen to their fans.

I also think a lot in the industry, are underestimating the need and want for physical media, just like they did with Blu Ray over DVD.

I downloaded Lost Planet off steam this weekend as it was on sale. I wouldnt be surpised if it had quite a spike. A decent game too if you like shooting and fantastic environments.
