The wisdom of crowds? The transience of fashion? The Internet's ability to combine both... what ever reason you care to apply, this year's Time Magazine Most Influential People in the World Poll makes limited sense.

See, when we ran the Time Poll story last year, up there at the top was Nintendo's man-genius (and inventor of Wii Music), Shigeru Miyamoto. He had 1,951,979 votes.

This time around, the voting mass have decided to demote Shiggy to Number 42. He has 614,641 votes. The indignity is compounded in many ways. Above the Shigster at 41 is Miley Cyrus (this is a poll about 'Influential' people remember). But above Miley at number 37 is President Barack Obama.

Up at Number 1 is 'moot', the founder of 4chan.org (Lolcats and Rickrolling)... yes. As far as Time readers are concerned 'moot' is even more influential than Vladimir Putin.
