New Chairman for Activision
Does Bobby Kotick need to look out?
Posted 5 May 2009

Activision/Blizzard - if you believe what Reuters has to say (and we reckon EA and Nintendo might demur) - is "the world's top video games company". Not only that but it has now got a new chairman.
Vivendi's chief executive, Jean-Bernard Levy, is to take the role as he replaces the current holder of the title, who is retiring this year.
Now, before evergybody starts to write wonderful eulogies for Bobby Kotick, a small dose of fact should be imbibed. Kotick is the chief executive of Acti/Blizz - and he is going nowhere (by which we mean that he's staying exactly where he is.)
Msr Levy replaces Msr Rene Penisson as chairman. Bearing in mind that Vivendi owns 54% of Activision/Blizzard, however, Msr Levy will come to the board with some substantial clout. We await Mr Kotick's reaction...
