Bethesda: DLC Not Reaching Enough Gamers
Gamers still want something to hold

The Pitt DLC
Bethesda has explained the decision to bring Fallout 3 downloadable content to retail, effectively stating that DLC is not reaching enough gamers and users still want something they can hold.
Bethesda's sales director, Paul Oughton, told MCV that, “Outside the UK, online connectivity rates are not as high, so in these territories the boxed product is a primary route to market.
"Even in the UK a large element of consumers still want a tactile product in a box. Fallout managed to break out from purely a hardcore of gamers and it’s this broader market that is less likely to download.”
The news might bring a little warmth to retailers staring down the barrel of increasing digital distribution.
Last week Bethesda announced that, as well as bringing Fallout 3 DLC to the PS3, it will release compilations of the content at retail.

my gripe with DLC is nothing to do with the tangibilty of it but more so, that when i finish the main story on a game on the scale of FO3, i have little incentive to keep playing.
i started it up the other day becaue i was bored and must have only played for 20 min.
i havent got any of the DLC and i cant see myself DLing it or buying in store.

And here is the main problem with DLC, if its not advertised enough, people will miss out on it. On top of that, even if they do, this content will be relying on the user to have hard drive space to accomodate it.
Physical media will always get to every gamer, and goes to show that MS loose a lot from Live not being free or cheaper. There will always be those that can't get online, and they should not be left behind.

Oh Bethesda, has it not occurred to you that GfWL might just be the reason that people aren't downloading your DLC? Not to mention the mixed reviews and problems with early downloads. Not the best way to encourage digital downloading.
