Electronic Arts has said that it has extended its publishing deal with Crytek to include... Crysis 2! The excellent news for console gamers is that, unlike the previous entries into the series, Crysis 2 will hit the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 alongside the PC.

The game will also be the first to use CryENGINE 3.

“The development of Crysis 2 marks a major stepping stone for our studio”, uttered Cevat Yerli, CEO and president of Crytek. “This is not only the next game in the Crysis franchise, it’s the first title we are developing for consoles and the first title being built on CryENGINE 3. We are excited to have the support of EA Partners again as we work together to make the launch of Crysis 2 a huge event.”

No further details, like a release date, were announced.

You have to wonder if the console release of Crysis 2 and Crytek's snapping up of the remnants of Free Radical - a studio well-versed in console development - are related...
