The new PSP Go was the hardware announcement of E3. By this we mean that it's actually happening in the near future.

We posted the tech details of the UMD-free device last week, including the fact that it will use USB. We also posted pix. However, one thing that we didn't notice amid all the hubub was that the USB port on the unit (see the picture on this page) does not take a standard connector.

For its part, Joystiq took some snaps of the add-ons available for the PSP Go. And yes, "more expensive existing accessories -- such as component A/V cables, voice headsets and pretty much anything made to work with the 3000 -- are completely incompatible... that's not even taking into account third-party add-ons, or things like Sony's own GPS module." is, as Joystiq points out, "cringe-worthy".

Actually, we don't understand why Sony would feel the need to replace a perfectly good standard (e.g. cheap, readily available cables fit it) port with a freakishly new socket. Maybe you've got an opinion. Tell us in the Forum.
