Don't let's confuse this with sales of tried and tested PS3 games such as Metal Gear Solid 4 (400k) and Killzone 2 (300k).
Do let's compare it with other first week USA sales:
- Motorstorm: 107,000.
- LittleBigPlanet: 110,000.
- Haze: 91,000.
- Heavenly Sword: 75,000.
- Warhawk: 70,000.
- Lair: 69,000.
- Resistance: 42,000.
- Uncharted: 32,000.
The fact that Lair managed to outsell both Resistance and Uncharted: Drake's Fortune in the first week comes as a bit of a shocker. But then again word of mouth kicks in and sales rose for both those titles in ensuing weeks.
Still, it goes to show that the many publishers are correct in their assertion that sequels sell better than first-parters.

Or maybe because Resistance launched with the PS3 and hardwrae sales were low?

I thought Lair was great, then they had to go and add analogue controls, (luckily they where optional so I never used them) if you ask me, if you can't be arsed to learn piss easy controls you shouldn't be playing the game in the first place, hell maybe you should quit gaming all together it's obviously not for you.
Reminded me of this one guy claiming that RE4's controls where completely different to REmake's, certainly a sarnie short of a picnic.
