Japanese Wii users will soon be getting the chance to stream Paramount Pictures movies such as Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen via their systems.

The news comes via an announcement from Sonic Solutions... which is partnering with Fujisoft... which will be using CinemaNow tech for the Wii's video-on-demand service in Japan, called 'Minna no Theater Wii' (Everyone's Theatre Wii).

Says Alex Carloss, Executive Vice President, Digital Distribution, Paramount Digital Entertainment. "Therefore we are delighted to become the first major studio offering video-on-demand through the Nintendo Wii."

Bear in mind that Paramount was also one of the key studios to leave the HD-DVD consortium to release its wares on Blu-ray.

The fact that movies will now be streamed to Wii - and that we live in the 21st Century - could be a tip off for Hi-Def Wii-dom before we enter the 22nd Century as no studio, no matter how widespread the medium of communication (there are lots of Wiis in Japan) really wants to see key titles compared low definition.

You are wrong. Paramount was the studio that left blu-ray to release exclusively on HD DVD in August, 2007. They returned to blu-ray after the war was over.

Though what any of this announcement has to do either format is questionable.
