Japan Hardware: Portable Sales Down, PS3 Still Top
What a difference a week makes in Japan. Thanks to PS3-exclusive Pro Evolution Soccer (or Winning Eleven as it's known there) 2010 topping the software charts, Sony's home console has had a rather significant bump in sales, outselling even the mighty Nintendo DSi and DS Lite combined. The PlayStation 3 made an additional 12,864 sales on top of last week's number, an increase of roughly 36%.

The Wii also made a small gain this week (+2,922 / +10.11%), but in overall sales came in at fourth place behind the PS3, DSi and PSP 3000. Nintendo has been vocal about the lack of Wii sales lately, and is probably hoping that New Super Mario Bros. Wii will achieve the Christmas surge that its looking for.

After a respectable first few days on sale, interest in the PSP Go has now dipped dramatically, with over 15,000 fewer units sold compared to last week, making for a whopping 51.93% decrease. DS Lite's sales percentage drop was comparable (-20.10%) by simply selling 1,387 fewer units. PSP 3000 (-1,127 / -3.23%), DSi (-96 / -0.26%), and Xbox 360 (-1,368 / -22.62%) sales also dropped. Meanwhile, the PS2 proves that it just won't die with an increase of 100 units sold (+5.09%). Looks like this isn't a portable gaming week for Japan at all.
