President: PlayStation is Poison

Chavez asks for educational gaming

World in Flames.
Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez has gone public in his condemnation of one particular brand of game console. It's Sony's PlayStation which, says the left-wing head of state is 'poison'.

The President was speaking on his own weekly radio show ('Alo Presidente') when he stated, "Those games they call 'PlayStation' are poison. Some games teach you to kill. They once put my face on a game, 'you've got to find Chavez to kill him.'"

What could be be talking about? Possibly Mercenaries II: World in Flames? A South American lobby group certainly thought so, and even petitioned U2's Bono about it.

President Chavez believes that video games that want its players to "bomb cities or just throw bombs", are created by capitalist countries and sold into other nations so that those capitalists can "later sell weapons". That would, of course, suggest some form of actual organisation on the part of game publishers and arms dealers.

Much to the confusion, we'd assume, of right-thinking capitalists, however, Chavez has alternatives to suggest: he want "educational games" to be made and sold.

Ah, poor old Hugo Chavez. Of course he believes that the manufacturers of video games and arms dealers are in cahoots. How could he not? The man views the entire world through the lens of his militant socialist ideology, so there's no hope for neutrality - everyone is either with him or against him. His appearance in Mercenaries 2 was definitely mandated by the ruling elite, so as to prepare the groundwork for an invasion.

He always was one of the most sensible world leaders, heh.
