Stateside bricks'n'mortar games retail giant GameStop has seen it's second chief financial officer in six months resign. The official line is that, "Catherine R. Smith has resigned from her role of Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer to accept a position with Walmart International. The company has also announced that Robert A. Lloyd, Senior Vice President and Chief Accounting Officer of GameStop, has been named interim Chief Financial Officer, effective immediately."
All of this looks like a pretty rapid departure. The
official response from Daniel DeMatteo, Chief Executive Officer of GameStop, refers to "a 14-year GameStop veteran" Lloyd and totally avoids mention of Smith. In fact there is not even a "we wish her good luck" for the departing CFO, indicating a less than amicable parting of the ways.
What is equally intriguing is that the company does state Smith's destination. New gaming knowledge comes to Walmart.
