Gamescom Organisers: UK Is Biggest European Market
Gamescom is keen to reach out to retailers and trade companies from UK for this year's event, as it announces a co-operation with national airliner Germanwings to offer 100 free return flights for British dealers.

The deal is one of many initiatives launched by the show's organisers, keen to engage the UK industry because it is "the biggest games market in Europe." Other plans include a country partnership with Canada, with an aim to put pressure on British and European governments to fully support the industry with tax breaks.

"We want to get people to Gamescom over E3, certainly," said Koelnmesse's vice president of IT and digital entertainment Kai Schmude. "The difficulty is that there is a relationship with the UK and LA [where E3 is held], in terms of language and politics. But we want to make it even easier for consumers and trade in the country to get to the Cologne venue."

Gamescom enjoyed an impressive debut last year as it splintered from Games Convention in Leipzig, with over 17,000 trade visitors. 44 per cent of attendees were confirmed to have come from abroad, and the organisers want to improve on that number.

The free flight deal is available to the first 100 UK dealers that purchase a ticket to the Gamescom trade fair by Friday 14th May. The event will take place on the 18th August and will run until the 22nd - public days start on the 19th August.
