Onlive Launches in US, Pricing Structure Detailed
Onlive, the cloud-based gaming platform that was announced last year, has recently launched in the US, revealing a glimpse of the service's pricing options ahead of its UK launch in 2011.

At present, there are three options available to those wanting to play a game from the cloud. You can pay for access to the game for up to three or five days, or you can opt to pay more for 'unlimited' access. That actually lasts until June 2013. So, not totally 'unlimited' then.

Not all games will have all access options available, and there's no unified pricing - Batman: Arkham Asylum only offers three or five-day access at $4.99 and $6.99 respectively, with no 'unlimited' option, while Assassin's Creed II only lets you purchase an 'unlimited' pass for $39.99.

To play any of these games, however, one needs to pay for an additional subscription to Onlive. If you don't pay the fee, you lose access to everything - even if you've paid for game access or have some time outstanding. Subscriptions are $14.95 a month.

I wasn't sure about it at first, seemed interesting, but now I can see it being a failure. surly no one is crazy enough to pay that.

I always assumed that the monthly subscription covered all costs. I had no idea there were individual payments to be made on top of this per game.

If you take the cost of each game out of the equasion then you are left having paid the price of a console over the course of a years subscription or a reasonably powerful gaming PC (which you can also use for other stuff) over the course of 2 years.

I know which I'd prefer (even if the on-live service ran with zero lag).

why cant it be like metaboli in the UK, Pay a lower monthly fee for access to 12 month + Games or a Higher Fee for new and recent titles as well as those older titles all unlimited for as long as you subscribe, this will fail pretty harshly.
