This week's Japanese Software Chart (19th - 25th July 2010, courtesy Media Create) proves the long tail of Nintendo's mainstream titles, with Wii Party returning to the #1 spot following a drop to #4 last week.
1 Wii Party – Nintendo (Wii) – 98,564
2 Fate/EXTRA (Limited Edition) – Marvelous Entertainment (PSP) – 72,170 / NEW
3 Inazuma Eleven 3 – Level-5 (DS) – 44,451
4 Fire Emblem: Shin Monshou no Nazo Hikari to Kage no Eiyuu – Nintendo (DS) – 39,459
5 Dragon Quest Monsters: Battle Road Victory – Square Enix (Wii) – 35,795
6 Jikkyou Powerful Pro Yakyuu 2010 – Konami (PSP) – 29,184
7 Jikkyou Powerful Pro Yakyuu 2010 – Konami (PS3) – 28,258
8 Super Mario Galaxy 2 – Nintendo (Wii) – 21,313
9 Last Ranker – Capcom (PSP) – 20,741
10 Katekyo Hitman REBORN! DS Flame Rumble XX – Takara Tomy (DS) – 19,540 / NEW
(Note: Chart position is first, then game name, publisher, format and sales for this week)
Sales figures aren't particularly inspiring, with Nintendo's first-party hit generating close to 100,000 units and that's about it. Marvelous' Fate/EXTRA enters at #2 with just over 70,000 in comparison. Everything else is a reshuffle of the chart from previous weeks, bar Takara Tomy's new Katekyo Hitman Reborn DS game which debuts at the bottom of the Top 10.
In terms of Western releases, Blur – Bizarre Creation's urban take on Mario Kart-style racing – was a new release this week in Japan, being published by Square Enix and given the cringe-worthy name change to blur racerz. It debuts at #50 in the software chart.
