Sony sends UK market skyrocketing but Mario sits tight
Plucky plumber fends off price cut
Posted 4 Oct 2001

Following Sony Computer Entertainment Europe dropping the price of the PlayStation 2 console, the games market in the UK went through the roof.
Overall sales were up, but the PlayStation 2 software market was given a huge boost, leaping up 52% in just a week.
The biggest PlayStation 2 seller was Sony’s first-party football game This Is Football 2002, which took the number two position.
All this ‘price droppery’ was still not enough to shake Mario Kart from top spot. The racing game just seems to have too much ‘must have’ appeal for gamers to resist.
