So, sure Need For Speed Hot Pursuit is cool, we know this but apparently mental-fast and fun driving games are causing people to demolish themselves all over the public roads.Manufacturer Continental Tires put together the study, quizzing 2,000 motorists (half of the gamers, the other half not) between the ages of 17 and 39 over their driving habits. The gamers surveyed believed that they were more skilled drivers, admitted to taking higher risks and also making higher claims on their vehicle insurance.
Continental's Tim Bailey said of the study: "It seems that while gamers develop useful skills and are more confident, they need to apply some balance with a sensible assessment of risk."
The results also showed that 22% of gamers had been reported to have been stopped by police compared with 13% of non-gamers. Gamers were also twice as likely to raise an insurance claim from an accident, encounter road rage and run a red light. Non-gamers were twice as likely to dent their vehicle and required one more attempt at passing the British driving exam on average.
