Neal Stephenson Wants to Do a Video Game
If you read those old fashionedy book things then you've probably heard of Neal Stephenson. He's the author of such timeless classics (and there is no snark here) as Snow Crash, Cryptonomicon and Reamde. He wants to make a video game and he wants your money.

Yes, it's another Kickstarter. Yes, it comes from someone who already has a lot of money. Let's hope that when Neal's game does come into being, he doesn't shag it up like an American sports star would.

The game will be called Clang (it's about swords and swording see) and, "it'll be a PC arena game based on one-on-one multiplayer dueling (which is a relatively simple and attainable goal; we don't want to mess this up by overreaching). Dueling, however, is only the tip of the sword blade.

"During the past few years, we have been developing a rich world, brimming with all manner of adventure tales waiting to be written--and to be played. In conjunction with 47 North, Amazon.com's new science fiction publishing house, we've already begun publishing some of those stories, and we have plenty more in the hopper. Once we get CLANG off the ground we intend to weave game and story content together in a way that'll enhance both the playing and the reading experience."

Help Neal raise money here.

Snow crash is one of my favourite books. it is amazing when you read it to think it was wrtten in the early 90's!

I still want one of the skateboards Hiro has in the book.

I am not sure it is any more amazing than "From Earth to the Moon" being written in 1865. I think most of the concepts in Snowcrash were quite well established by the 1990s (computers, networks, virtual realities). The linguistic virus thing was interesting, but mainly hokum.
