Rumour doing the rounds this morning is pointing towards an Xbox and GameCube version of the massive-selling Grand Theft Auto: Vice City being in production over at Rockstar Games.

It is believed that Rockstar has sidestepped the unspoken, or at least unannounced, exclusivity deal with Sony for a retro release of what became one of the most popular videogames of all time.

What's more, other sources indicate that Grand Theft Auto 4 may well make an all-formats debut, when it hits retail, almost guaranteeing a slot in history as the best/fastest/most pre-ordered game of all time.

However, most of this talk is the fall-out from Rockstar employees telling certain members of the press, on the quiet, that the firm is poised to make "a major announcement" at this year's E3. As Grand Theft Auto 4 is perhaps the most certain game of all time, the question of what the announcement could be has got the rumour mill turning. Some talk of Grand Theft Auto for PlayStation 3...

Oh E3, we can hardly wait.

Almost two years now and still no GC GTA. Oh well. GTA 4 (assuming they mean San Andreas), didn't debut on all consoles either.

I'm really hoping to see GTA on Cube. I'd get it on release.

I wouldn't hold my water on that one. More developers are bailing on GC games than joining to make them. It's true that that situation could turn round if the Revolution/GBA2 uses the same media perhaps.

Sure I'd love to see GTA on GC, but it's like asking for Namco to put Tekken on GC, highly unlikely but technically possible.

Don't worry though, I'm sure GC will get True Crime 2 and plug that huge gap for such a game.
