Dancing games are a niche just for quirky Japanese schoolgirls and overweight ladies, right? Wrong. Dancing games are big news, a fact driven home by Konami’s announcement of total sales figures for the Dance Dance Revolution series.

An amazing 6.5 million copies of the seminal timing and rhythm series have been snapped up around the world, since its journey from arcade to home console back in 1998.

Konami has stated that 4 million of these sales were in Japan, with the weight-loss factor and calorie-counting powering sales in the west.
