Killzone 2 Announced as Killzone Beta Testing Commences
Guerrilla Games confirm FPS sequel, not for PS3.
Posted 17 Aug 2004

Although the beta testing for the long-awaited Killzone has only just begun, Guerrilla Games has since revealed that Killzone 2 is in the works. If the first title does turn out to be a ‘Halo-killer’ as purported, then perhaps this could be the ‘Halo 2 killer’. It’s no surprise that Sony wants to publish a sequel, but interestingly, Guerrilla has confirmed that it won’t be for PS3.
If Killzone 2 is intended as a PS2 release, presumably it wouldn’t be released before this time next year: if it’s much later than that, it could be one of the last big Sony titles planned for this generation of consoles. Perhaps more likely is the prospect of Killzone 2 heading to PSP as one of the handheld’s key FPS titles.
As soon as the official explanation reaches us, we shall duly report it.

I can tell you from playing it that it is all just hype. it is not a bad game, but it is no Halo or Doom 3 for that matter. The gameplay is the same, graphics are too bland for me, and some of the level structure, including a scene earily resembling the scene of the first Halo 2 gameplay footage shown at E3 two years ago. So far I am not inspired to say this is a Halo killer at all.

Guess I can't say much because I haven't played it. I do feel it's trying to tread on Halo's coat tails more than Half Life 2.
Sony perhaps need a Killzone 2 to rally more FPS fans to their machine, because at the moment as far as FPS games are concerned it's all Xbox. Half Life 2 and Halo 2, plus Doom 3. Wave Ninja Gaiden and FIFA 2005 online in their faces and they might defect to Xbox for good.
Killzone 2 is necessary to combat this.

Making a killzone 2 would be good, this one looks good, and may beat halo, though no further, its still ps2 and the videos look good, except the unfortunate death animation.
If it comes to the PSP, that would be good, but for FPS's i generally pefer bigger screens.

My only concern is the framerate on the ageing PS2 - otherwise if it proves to even compete with Halo, it'll be a massive achievement.
