SNK Playmore is preparing for its big King Of Fighters tenth anniversary bash at this year’s TGS, and in doing so, has revealed some deeply satisfying news about the nature of other projects waiting in the ranks. For immediate consumption is the news that King Of Fighters ’94 Re-bout (the special anniversary edition to be unveiled at TGS) will be online compatible; immediately highlighting a principal reason for the re-release.
More forwards thinking spatially-aware King Of Fighters fans are also in for a treat. Although King Of Fighters: Maximum Impact, for the PS2, has yet to reach Euorpean shores; SNK Playmore has already announced that a sequel to the 3D version is a definite. Aiming for a Japanese release date in early 2006, the rabbit-like tradition of sequel spawning looks set to continue unabated. This is surely good news for followers of the series.
In yet more exciting SNK Playmore news, Ryoko Suzuki has also given an approximate timeline for the hugely intriguing 3D Metal Slug. Previous Metal Slug games have gained a devout and dedicated cult following largely because of their classic 2D presentation: so it will be interesting to see how established Sluggers cope with the transition to the third dimension. It’s due for release at some point in the coming spring, so all will be revealed in due course.
There’s definitely potential for greatness amongst these titles, we’ll bring you more SNK news as it arrives.

If Metal Slug in 3D turns out to be anything at all like the Army Men games, I shall commit hari-kiri in dishonour.
Generally good news though, good to see SNK's bigger franchises moving into 3D as well as the dedicated ones like Cool Cool Toon.

Not sure how KoF MI is to play, but I'd give it a try. A nice break between Tekken 5 and Capcom Fighting Jam. As for Metal Slug, I pray the 3D transition doesn't spoil it's unique and fun flavour. I think SNK will do it justice.
