Best PlayStation 3 Fake to Date Does the Rounds

SPOnG’s mailbox this morning received the latest mocked-up console image doing the rounds of late, and we have to say that - although the image is clearly fake - it is the best of its kind thus far.

The images, purporting to be taken from an internal SCEA PDF document, detail a rather wonderful looking PlayStation 3 concept, complete with UMD slot, Memory Stick Duo and some nicely coloured LED lights on the front.

Although the console does look more like a digital camera or projector, there is no denying the skill of the artist behind the fake, though as one Gaming Age Forum user pointed out, the mapping of the reflection is lifted from a stock freeware image.

Still, it’s always good to see that the PhotoShopping of concepts for upcoming videogame consoles is a sport that looks as strong today as it was back in 1987.

Particularly good considering that Photoshop 1.0 wasn't released until 1990.

I believe that the earliest mock-ups were much later than that, can anyone prove me wrong (or right ;-)?

This is the ugliest console idea I've ever seen. It looks like one of those huge black peice of crap cameras from the 1970s.

In '87 they used paint:

Somew nice reflection rendering, though. Now, if only the rest of the image proved the reflection accurate...

Until then, fake. Plus, why would they use UMD? I thought they already promised Blu-Ray?

Wait... yeah, it has to be fake.

The UMD slot is the wrong shape; UMDs are not round.
Surely Sony wouldn't make it slot-load.

It's about as real as that Megadrive prototype.
