Exclusive: Mario Paint DS Confirmed – Revolution Outing Mentioned
SPOnG can reveal today that Nintendo is currently developing Mario Paint for Nintendo DS, slated for release in mid-to-late 2006 – excellent news, we’re sure you’ll agree.

Speaking to us under terms of anonymity, a source close to Nintendo in Kyoto told SPOnG, “The project is at a turning point. The original plan is to make a DS update to Mario Paint on the Super Famicom which would seem an obvious thing to do. This would be a quite large application containing drawing, animation and music software,” continued our source. “Nintendo now feels it might be better to release three titles, one for painting, one for animation and one for making music. It’s not decided as to which plan will be followed.”

We were also told that “…the new Mario Paint will be a community-building game and users will be able to share their creations with other DS users and Revolution users.” Revolution users? “Yes, there is a plan for Mario Paint on Nintendo Revolution as well, as it is believed that the controller lends itself perfectly to creative software. Of course this will be with 3D options rather than just 2D, though the plan would be for Revolution and DS versions of Mario Paint to communicate in some way.”

An NCL spokesperson commenting from Kyoto to SPOnG today via Nintendo Europe simply said, “We cannot comment on any games that may or may or may not be in development.”

Of course, this news is one of those stories that is so obvious we find ourselves amazed that it’s not already been announced. Speaking to us several weeks ago on an unrelated issue, a Nintendo employee commented, “PictoChat was originally going to have a lot more functionality but it was pulled to get it embedded in the DS in stable form – shame it wasn’t more like Mario Paint…”

SPOnG would also like to register intrigue of the highest order in Revolution Mario Paint. The idea of making 3D models (not only of girls) using the little magic wand sounds like the kind of thing our wives will eventually leave us for/love us more for when we dedicate our entire lives to Nintendo's upcoming industry-breaking new machine.

Get a grip drawing in 3D sounds cool but it is a lot more work and a lot more difficult than it sounds, especially using a device like the Rev controller

whats if you used it liek one of those 3d scaner things... touch it to points on something and then press the button and the program woudl make the model... also drawing splines and doign simple lofts and extrudes woudl be very simple... plus you coudl use do liek the deform tool in maya where you pick a push or pull or smooth brush and the diamiter and intensity and rub it over the surface to edit shapes... it could be an incredibly easy to use tool if done correctly, and i have faith in nintendo to do it right.

woudl suck if they made it in multiple sections though, i dont want to buy one for music one for drawing and one for animating... how am i supposed to make my mario kombat animations complete with forboding duck quack fatality music.
best was luigi and mario facing off and luigi pulled his head (mask) off and it was yoshi and he ate marios head.... classic!

oh i wish i still had that vhs.

any body else have any specific mario paint memories... im so stoaked for this!

You people still buy into this crap?

NO ONE has confirmed this.

Spong is LYING.

Again.

If Mario Paint does come out next year, this would have been a GUESS. Spong in no way has people CONFIRM this stuff for them, yet places like IGN do not.

places like IGN have contracts with sponsors and agrements and nda's that prevent them from telling you these things, even if they know them months in advance... and they also tend to lack any sort of investigative abilities and instead live off of exclsuives they recieve due to their size and reader ship and standard press releases liek the rest of the media.

and if they come out with three seperate versions for the DS and a revo version... im sure your going to come rushign back on here to apologize... i'll be looking forward to it.

Zeo, why do you even come here to read our news? If it's all lies, right, why come back? Why don't you just read IGN?

Surely you can't be putting yourself through this, selflessly, in order to educate everyone else here?

Any votes on banning Zeo?

This cretin does nothing but cry "foul" on a stories he doesn't agree with. Not the behaviour of a valued denizen of the SPOnG community.

I see our little bitch Zeo is whining again because his piss-ant website, DSRevolution, didn't get the scoop.

He's a horrible little troll, who seems to have gone a bit quiet - has he been banned?

Though I have to say the FACT THAT HE USED LOADS OF CAPITALS nearly had me convinced.

No, you see, the only stories I bitch in are ones I am right about.

Spong has no scoop. They have a RUMOR.

Get over yourselves. I am no troll, I am telling the truth.

This site has absolutely zero credibility in the industry or among gamers. Fact.

Oh, and what makes you think DSRevolution is my site?

So why keep coming back again and again?

Why don't you just read your credible news sources and leave us in our ignorance?

Takes a lot to get me to reply to folks in the forum, but you - you're a f**king pain in the neck.

There's an 'r' missing from your name, would anyone like to guess where it goes?

is it just me or is any one else not excited about mario paint?i will be getting the revo but not this game

I wouldn't get too excited.

They announced exactly these same programs at Spaceworld 98 for the N64 (remember Ploygon Maker and the Capture Cassette?) and none of them were ever released.

This might be another load of Spong bullshit, but I think it does have a chance of having a glimmer of truth in it.

They released a polygon studio for 64DD, which apparently was surprisingly easy to use, even with an N64 controller, so with the revolution controller it could be even easier.

Your icon would lead me to believe otherwise. Maybe you should use a more subdued Krillon or Nail. Hmm???
